- allowed Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare to establish the first federally mandated emission standards on light-duty vehicles

- The attempt to address solid waste problems through research, investigations, experiments, training, demonstrations, surveys and studies
1967- California Air Resources Board Established
- The pursuit of maintaining healthy air quality for citizens from the exposure of air contaminants
1967- Air Quality Act
- one of a series of steps by the national (federal) government of the United States to address air pollution
- first federal legislation involving air pollution
- established a federal program within the U.S. Public Health Service
- Law came due to failure of progression in the quality of air
1969- Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act
- more comprehensive and stringent than previous federal laws governing the mining industry.
- Standards became stronger and the adoption of standards were made
- included specific procedures for the development of improved mandatory health and safety standards, and provided compensation for miners who were totally and permanently disabled by the progressive respiratory disease caused by the inhalation of fine coal dust pneumoconiosis or "black lung".
1969- National Environmental Policy Act
- promotes the enhancement of the environment and established the President's Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ).
- requirement that all executive federal agencies prepare environmental assessments (EAs) and environmental impact statements (EISs)
- outlines national environmental policies and goals; the second establishes provisions for federal agencies to enforce such policies and goals; and the third establishes of the CEQ in the Executive Office of the President.
1970 Reorganization Plan No.3 created the Environmental Protection Agency
- executive order submitted to the United States Congress on July 9, 1970 byPresident Richard Nixon establishing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and setting forth the components of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
- establish and enforce federal environmental protection laws
